Privacy Policy

Effective October 29, 2026

Hey Intern is an AI assistant you text. It's run by Cole Gottdank, a sole proprietor in the United States ("Hey Intern", "we", "us"). This policy covers heyintern.ai, app.heyintern.ai and the texts you exchange with Hey Intern. It explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices. What we collect

• Your phone number and texts. Your mobile number is your Hey Intern account. We keep the texts, photos and files you send Hey Intern and its replies, so it can do what you ask.
• Account details. If you sign in with Google: your Google account's ID, email address and name. The public keys of passkeys you add. The kinds of devices and browsers you're signed in on, and when. Sign-in codes we text you, for a few minutes.
• Accounts you connect. When you connect Google, or another service such as Shopify, Stripe or Square, we keep the access it gives us (its tokens), encrypted, and the information Hey Intern reads through it while it works for you.
• Saved logins. Logins you save for Hey Intern are sealed (encrypted) in your browser before they reach us, so that only your Hey Intern computer can open them. We store them sealed, and your computer opens one only to sign in for you.
• Your Hey Intern computer. Each person gets a private cloud computer that Hey Intern works on. It holds what Hey Intern needs to work for you: notes about your preferences and ongoing tasks, files it downloads or makes, and its web browser's data, such as cookies for sites it signs in to.
• Payments. If you subscribe, Stripe collects your payment details. We get your subscription's status, not your full card number.
• Waitlist. If you join the waitlist on heyintern.ai, your email address.
• Technical data. Records of requests and errors, which can include IP addresses, device and browser type, and times. We use them to run and secure Hey Intern. Our sites use cookies only to sign you in and to protect signing in from abuse.

How we use it

• To provide Hey Intern: understand your messages, do what you ask (search the web, use the accounts you connect, sign in to sites with your saved logins), text you back, and tell you about things worth knowing.
• To run your account: signing in, security, preventing abuse, billing and support.
• To improve Hey Intern, including by training or tuning AI models. You can ask us not to use your content this way by emailing cole@heyintern.ai. This does not apply to information from Google APIs, or to information from a store you connect: see Google user data and Store data.
• To follow the law and enforce our Terms of Service.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.

AI processing

Hey Intern's AI models are provided by Anthropic. To answer you and do tasks, your messages and the information a task needs are sent to Anthropic through its API, and processed under Anthropic's commercial terms. If we change AI providers, we'll update this policy.

Who we share it with

• Providers that run Hey Intern for us, only as needed to do so:
  • Sendblue: sends and receives texts and iMessages.
  • Anthropic: the AI models.
  • Amazon Web Services: runs your Hey Intern computer.
  • Cloudflare: runs our websites, servers, database and logs, and protects signing in from abuse.
  • Stripe: payments.
  • Google: signing in with Google, and the Google services you connect.
• The services and websites Hey Intern uses for you. When you ask Hey Intern to do something, like send an email, fill out a form or make a booking, it shares what that takes with that service, on your behalf.
• For legal reasons: when the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of you, others or Hey Intern, and to prevent fraud and abuse.
• If Hey Intern changes hands: in a merger, sale or reorganization, with notice to you, and this policy keeps applying to your information.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with third parties.

Google user data

Hey Intern's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

When you connect Google, you choose what Hey Intern may use. With your permission, it can:

• Gmail: read and search your email, send email you ask it to send, and organize your email with labels. It never deletes email.
• Calendar: see your events and add events.
• Sheets and Docs: read the sheets and docs you ask about or send a link to, make new ones, and edit the ones you ask it to.
• Drive: save the files you ask it to, and read back the files it saved or made. It doesn't see the rest of your Drive, and it never deletes files.
• Contacts: read your contacts.
• Tasks: see, add and complete your tasks.
• Analytics: read your Google Analytics reports.

How we handle it:

• We use Google user data only to provide and improve the features you use in Hey Intern: doing what you ask, and noticing things worth telling you, like an email that needs a reply.
• We never use it to develop, improve or train generalized AI or machine learning models.
• We never use it for advertising, and we never sell it.
• We share it only as needed to provide those features (for example, with Anthropic, to work on a request about your email), to follow the law, or in a merger or sale with notice to you.
• People at Hey Intern don't read it, unless you ask us to (for example, for support), it's needed for security, or the law requires it.
• Google's access tokens are kept encrypted in our service, not on your Hey Intern computer.
• You can disconnect Google at any time on the Connections page at app.heyintern.ai: we delete our access and ask Google to end it. You can also remove Hey Intern's access in your Google Account.

Store data

When you connect a store, such as Shopify, Hey Intern reads your store's information, including about your customers and their orders, only when a task needs it. We use it only to provide Hey Intern to you: to do what you ask about your store and to tell you things worth knowing about it. We don't use it for anyone else, to improve Hey Intern or to train AI models, we never sell it or use it for advertising, and we share it only as needed to provide Hey Intern to you (for example, with Anthropic, to work on your request) or when the law requires it. Hey Intern's Shopify app reads orders, products, customers, inventory and locations. It changes a product, its stock or an order only when you say yes to that change, and it never deletes, refunds, cancels or edits your customers.

Text messages

We use your number to text you: replies, updates on what you asked for, sign-in codes and account notices. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop texts from Hey Intern, or HELP for help. More in our Terms.

Keeping and deleting your information

We keep your information while you have a Hey Intern account. To delete your account and its data, email cole@heyintern.ai. We'll delete your Hey Intern computer, your texts, your connections and saved logins. We keep only what we must for legal, tax, billing or security reasons, such as payment records. Logs and backups are deleted as they age out.

In your account at app.heyintern.ai, you can also disconnect accounts (Connections), remove saved logins (Logins) and cancel your plan (Plan) at any time.

How long we keep things:

• Your texts, files, Hey Intern's notes and what it reads from your connected accounts: on your Hey Intern computer, while you have an account.
• On our servers, they only pass through: a text you send, or what Hey Intern reads from a connected account, is cleared as soon as your computer receives it. The words of a reply are kept at most 30 minutes after it's sent, in case it needs sending again.
• Access to accounts you connect (their tokens): until you disconnect, or the service ends it.
• A record of each request Hey Intern makes to a connected account (which account, what kind of request, when, and whether it worked, never what it read): 90 days.
• Files and pictures Hey Intern texts you: deleted from our storage a day after they're sent, and 7 days at most.
• Sign-in codes: 10 minutes. A sign-in lasts 90 days.
• Logs of requests and errors, which never hold your messages or what Hey Intern reads: 7 days on Cloudflare. On the servers that run Hey Intern computers, 7 days for each computer's logs, and the server's own log until the server is replaced, which every update does.
• Records of Hey Intern's AI use (counts and cost, no content): 62 days.
• Backups our database provider keeps: 30 days.

Security

Information is encrypted in transit. Tokens for accounts you connect are encrypted at rest. Saved logins are sealed in your browser. Each person's Hey Intern computer is kept separate from everyone else's. No system is perfectly secure; if you find a problem, please tell us at cole@heyintern.ai.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, or not to use your content to train models: email cole@heyintern.ai from your account's email, or tell us your Hey Intern number. To stop texts, reply STOP.

If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and share it, and to ask us to delete or correct it. We don't sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.

Children

Hey Intern is for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Where we operate

Hey Intern is for people in the United States. Our providers process information mainly in the United States.

Changes

We'll post any changes to this policy here and update the date above. If a change is significant, we'll let you know before it takes effect.
